Collections law firms filing bankruptcy
Dec 19
All morning my staff have been calling various numbers they have for Mann Bracken LLP and being told that Mann Bracken is closing down, call the creditor direct. I wondered if this was going to happen. I have a couple of hearings in state court cases with them in Jan on credit card suits. I wonder how that will play out. The parent company filed Bankruptcy and Mann is closing down all operations. They are toast. Axiant, the company that provided their office staff is in an 11 that converted to 7. The staff was let go last week. The lawyers are supposed to be done before the end of the year. Amex filed a Motion To Lift Stay to get their files back. Amex filing the motion for relief from stay is very, very funny. This case provides a real world example of what we are dealing with on the other side. We are no longer dealing with real law firms but with pseudo-law firms that are actually owned by the back-office operations like Axiant in this case. Codillis, McCalla, Morris, Barrett, Brice, etc., are not really law firms but are actually owned by Hedge Funds.
